I just wanted to tell you about some of the things we have been doing that the girls have been leaving out. On day two we drove through Death Valley and got to see some really interesting things, but with 3.4 million acres, it would have taken us ages to get to do it all! In the visitor’s center we learned that there is actually an animal called a pack rat and there is an animal called a Chuckwalla that can live its entire life without drinking water. Out here there are grates on the road to try to keep the cattle from crossing because they like to be on the pavement at night because it is so warm. When we were in Death Valley, we met a tour bus of people from Australia, Germany, and Belgium. They were very nice and very interesting. While in Death Valley we saw the actual place where 20 Mule Team Borax originally came from. We wanted to see Artist’s Palette, but our RV was too long. The girls have learning all sorts of things like how to live in cramped quarters together, how to make food for themselves, and most importantly how to live without cell phone service sometimes!
Yesterday (day 3) we drove a lot, but we saw a lot of interesting things too...including: functioning oil wells, sheep, goats, horses, llamas, herford cattle, angus cattle, dairy cattle, longhorn (you should have seen their horns) cattle, pine nuts growing, almond trees in bloom, orange groves, a couple grapefruit trees, lemon groves, a field of mustard, olive groves, lots of grapevines, a field of poppies, wheat field, and beehives!
Today in Yosemite we learned a lot about Ansel Adams and even more about photographic composition! I’ll let the girl continue to fill you in about how much we learned about photography and the great sites today!
The continuing story of our rv trip out west.
